Uranus square Pluto, Sun in Pisces

The riddles of reflection are action through stillness, and generation through receptivity. When we reflect on an experience, we are not actively engaging in the experience. Instead, we are attempting to perceive it from new angles. The roots of the word, reflection, mean “to bend back,” as still water bends light in such a way that objects are mirrored, rendering their appearance - and our experience of those objects - changed. Choppy water, on the other hand, breaks up the reflection, making the reflection of the object difficult to perceive, and thus leaving us to look directly at the object itself, without the bend of fresh perspective. Mercury’s direct motion, the final exact pass of Uranus square Pluto, and ramping up to a solar eclipse make 2015’s solar month of Pisces an excellent time to allow action to arise from stillness, to allow creativity to arise from receptivity, to bend time, to refract light, to reflect.

CLeaning up Mercurial Messes: 2/11/15 - 3/3/15
After a three-week retrograde, Mercury stationed direct the morning of Wednesday, February 11th. Give the guy a week to get back up to normal speed, and then you can heave your post Mercury retrograde sigh of relief. Mercury will be traveling forwards through the shadow of his retrograde through the rest of February and into the first few days of March. In the next few weeks, you’ll receive opportunities to act on the insights you received during the actual retrograde (1/21 - 2/11).

What “A-ha!” moments have you had in the past few weeks?
What communities are you connected to? Do they expand & energize you?
What have you learned about the interconnectedness of our species in the past few weeks?
What role/s do you play in that interconnexion?

Sun in Pisces: 2/18/15 - 3/20/15
The constellation of Pisces: two fish swimming in opposite directions, an image of ambivalence. Like all things, ambivalence can be healing or destructive, depending on how and when it is applied. The second riddle of this month’s report is this: Ambivalence arises from strength, but can cause weakness.

The roots of the word, ambivalence, literally mean to be strong in two conflicting ways. One fish taps into its own strength to swim upstream against the current, while the other fish, in swimming downstream, taps into the strength of the current itself. In the Pisces solar month, we must both find our inner strength to face the challenges of reality, and simultaneously let go and allow reality to guide us. To do the latter, we must first engage the former - i.e, face reality and then give into it. Otherwise, we run into the danger of the Pisces shadow - not looking at life’s actual flow, escaping, and manipulating others (other people, other substances, other stories, etc) into making the current “nicer” for us.

Pisces is a water sign, and in astrology, water symbolizes emotions. As demonstrated by water’s reflective abilities, we receive a clearer image from calm waters. Sometimes we need to feel those stormy, choppy, swirling and wild emotions, but our perspective is inherently unclear in those moments. Tranquility breeds clarity, but there is a fine line here - healthy water is always moving, even if its movements are subtle. For truth of perspective, aim for a serene flow.

In what direction are your life’s events & opportunities guiding you?
What are your responsibilities in these events & opportunities - What can you change?
In what ways do you need to let go, and give in to what is - What can you not change?
What brings you to an inner calm and quiet?

Saturn square Neptune: Reality and dreams in the boxing ring
This Pisces solar month begins two and a half minutes after the Aquarius new moon, imbuing the whole month with a sense of our interconnectedness, and with a contemplative quality, which is further accentuated by a square between Neptune, strongly placed in their home sign of Pisces, and Saturn in Sagittarius. That tender (or tenderizing) aspect shatters illusions, making the need to accept reality and the responsibilities that come with it - while still maintaining your faith, hope and vision - all the more pressing. At this time, it is essential to let go of regrets, what-if’s, and should-have’s. Let your past actions and decisions dissolve into the past. This will free them to help you move forward from where you are now. The wisdom of this configuration is this:

Hindsight is not always 20/20.

We can color the past with the rosy lenses of false perfection. Reality is now, and if you look honestly, you will find both suffering and peace in each and every moment - past, present and future. Acknowledge and respond to both your current suffering and your current ease, and above all, work to manifest your dreams into this earthly timespace, and then accept their inevitable imperfections.

What work is required to manifest your dreams?
What are the first steps you can take on that manifestation journey?
How can you weave your dreams more fully into the fabric of humanity?

Another Aquarius Lunation Begins: 2/18/15
Two Aquarius new moons in a row and a Mercury retrograde in Aquarius mean it’s time to think about our interconnectedness. We live in an individualistic society, which can obscure the inherent interdependency of humanity. The fact remains, however, that we are a species.

The biologist, E. O. Wilson has observed that ants - a species whose colonies work as an interdependent whole - are a major evolutionary success, as evidenced by their many centuries of life on this planet, while the success of humans - a comparatively new species - is yet to be seen. Ants also have an extreme hierarchy that mirrors our 1% vs. 99% global economic disparity. This is the evolutionary strategy of a species without compassion. With both Aquarius and Pisces highlighted this month, we need to consider innovative possibilities for our species that are compassionate in their interdependency. Aquarius can envision egalitarian methods. Pisces teaches us that each and every one of us is both capable of giving and worthy of receiving compassion. The questions here may be a bit tough, but soften your heart with some self-forgiveness and self-love first, and then give them a try.

What happens in your heart when you hate your “enemies?”
What happens in your heart when you love your “enemies?”
How are you reliant on the people & communities you dislike?
How are they reliant on you?

Uranus Square Pluto Exact: 3/16/15
The final of seven exact squares between Uranus and Pluto occurs on Monday, March 16th. For a thorough report on the overall timing and thrust of this configuration, please read this article. “Final exact square” does not mean that after March 16th we’ll be skipping through the garden with the conflicts of the gods behind us. Uranus and Pluto move slowly, and will maintain a pretty tight square throughout 2015, and will slowly move out of this configuration for another couple years after that.

Because Pluto deals with transformation on the death and rebirth level, this last year of the closest passes of Uranus’ square invites a transition from the death phase to the rebirth phase. Consider what major parts of your life - relationships, places, parts of yourself, experiences, people, etc - have died, either literally or figuratively since 2012. The more you release, the more you will be replenished, so use this last exact configuration to more fully let those deaths go, and train your awareness on what is in the beginning stages of rebirth. If you feel stuck in the death phase of this cycle, that indicates there is something you’re holding onto. Let go. Pluto does not take, “No,” for an answer.

Although both planets are calling for transformation, there is great friction in timing and style. Pluto in steady-as-she-goes Capricorn is working on deep, slow levels of tearing down, building and overhaul, while Uranus in quick-tempered Aries wants drastic, immediate and liberating results. Yes, you need freedom now, but you also need to build something solid for the future. If you choose to play only one side of this configuration, then something outside of yourself - the government, a passing car, a person, your job, the environment, etc - will play the other side. BE the change, rather than having it thrust upon you.

Are the structures of your life in alignment with your beliefs?
What is your brilliance?
What are you on fire about?
How can you channel your brilliance & fire into creatively illuminating others?
How is your balance between freedom & responsibility?
Are you using your power & authority (yes, you do have some - own it!) with integrity?

Here’s one last thought to ruminate on: Reflections (past) are projections (future), inverted. The Pisces solar month indicates a time of dissolving and integrating the past so that we can be reborn at the vernal equinox. The past feeds the future. When we hold fast to the suffering of our past without learning from it, we invite more suffering. Alternatively, when we transmute our past experiences into strength and wisdom, we nourish our future. Each moment is an opportunity for this transmutation.

Coming Soon:
Next month’s report on the solar month of Aries will offer insights into the first eclipse in the Pisces/Virgo axis since 2008 & the next lunar eclipse in Libra. Feel free to like and repost this report as you see fit. Until next time, wishing you a heart-ful month.  Thanks for reading,

Sun in Virgo 2014

Satisfaction: It’s an elusive thing in the first world. The U.S. breeds a simultaneously workaholic and over-indulgent culture. We never feel as though we’ve done enough, and we are haunted by unfulfilled - and perhaps unfulfillable - yearnings for something more. The roots of the word satisfaction mean to have done enough. The planets, in this solar month of Virgo, want us to find that feeling of having done and received enough.

Abundance: Embodiment & Faith Merge
Tomorrow night (late August 17th in PDT), Venus conjoins Jupiter in Leo, encouraging us to take concrete action on what we believe most whole-heartedly in. This is a brief transit that creates ebullient feelings that are easy to enjoy. Do so, but if you also take action on what you enjoy, there will be profound rewards. This energy filters more subtly into the next week, and infuses the whole solar month of Virgo with a bit of its serendipitous spark.

What opportunities are most calling to your heart right now?
Which relationships offer a sense of mutual expansion & growth?
How can you joyfully bring your beliefs & actions into alignment?

Sun in Virgo: 8/22 - 9/22
The Sun’s transit through Virgo marks the beginning of the harvest season. It is the culmination of the dreams of winter, the efforts of spring, and the cultivation of summer. Both the fruits of our labors and our labors are at their peak, so - provided we have dreamt well, and put forth the proper effort and care - it is a time of accelerated and focused work with clear rewards. This is also a time when our level of mastery become apparent to us and others. Depending on where you are on the spectrum, it’s thus a time to either impart your wisdom and experience, or gain more expertise & knowledge from the masters you feel drawn to.

The root of the word, harvest, means to cut. We cut the fruits of our labors off so we can be nourished by them. Also, we cut away dead matter and anything that directs energy away from the integrity of the system we are cultivating. Thus Virgo also has an association with purification.

       What are you harvesting?
Are you being nourished by the fruits of your labors?
What mastery have you attained? What mastery do you wish to attain?
Who are your teachers? Who are your students?
What work gives you a sense of satisfaction?
What happens when you cultivate the feeling of satisfaction at the end of each day?
What/Who needs to be cut away to maintain the integrity & health of the whole of your life?

The Right Effort Lunation Begins on 8/25
The moon is new in Virgo on the same day that Mars conjoins Saturn in Scorpio. This is a double indication that it’s time to commit to those matters of deepest importance to you. A new moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle. It is a time of realigning intention and redirecting focus through contemplation and inner seeking. Neptune’s opposition to the Sun and Moon bring elements of redemption into the month’s story. Meanwhile, Venus and Jupiter in Leo remind us to play, to love, and to enjoy life to its fullest, even as we attend to our goals, visions, responsibilities, and realms of service.

Have you identified your life’s Work? If not, see below*
What are the structures you need to put in place to manifest that Work?
What/whom do you need to forgive in order to help you move forward with clarity?
How is your work/life balance? Are you making time to play and rest as well as work?
Is there an element of redemption in your skills - for you, for those you serve, or both?
*Write a letter to yourself about the decisions and challenges you face now
from the perspective of an older you in your last few moments of life.

Pisces Super Full Moon: 9/8 (PDT)
The Virgo lunation, which began with a private inner search, culminates in an outgoing super full moon. This Pisces moon is aligned with the planetoid, Chiron, and features a Venus/Neptune opposition, all in the 1st/7th house axis. It thus offers powerful healing through direct encounters with others, so it’s a very fruitful time to work with a healer, therapist or teacher if you are in need of a breakthrough. Here are some recommendations of wonderful healers (& artists, who are the healers of society). Or perhaps you will be the agent of someone else’s breakthrough. The truest statement to be made of this Pisces full moon is we are all connected through a vast and intricate web, and thus we are all capable of being agents of each others’ healing.

Coming Soon:
Next month’s report on the solar month of Libra will give you some tools for maintaining equilibrium during the double whammy of a lunar eclipse and Mercury’s next retrograde cycle.

Sun in Gemini 2014, Mercury Retrograde in Cancer & Gemini

How fast can you run in knee-deep mud? What is the conversation between Immediacy and Obstacle like? What kind of story would you write with a pen that randomly changes color on paper that intermittently shrinks and grows while your mind’s perceptions shift like a kaleidoscope under water?

Sun in Gemini, 5/20/14 - 6/21/14:
The Sun’s transit through Gemini is normally a time of accelerated activity, when we can expect to be running about, chatting with people, and gathering up quantities of facts and ideas to process & catalogue in our noggins. We are alive with ideas, inspiration, energy and creativity, and not particularly drawn to such things as focus and commitment. Spring is overflowing, and starting to tip over into the fullness of Summer’s luminous energy. It’s time to have fun, but be patient this month as the pace of this year’s solar transit of Gemini will feel like an odd mixture of rushed yet sludgy.

Mars Stations Direct in Libra, 5/19/14:
<> Mars is a planet that appreciates neither the stillness that occurs during a planetary station, nor the grace, idealism and prudence of Libra. This is not a comfortable transit, but it does offer a reset button in terms of where and how we are directing our energies, especially in the context of relationships, & what actions we can take to attain & maintain balance.
<> When Mars is thwarted from expressing decisive force, strength and valor, he can resort to willy-nilly aggression. Depending on your temperament, this may show up as undue anger either expressed by you or at you, or as an injury, or a mental or physical illness that slows you down (especially be wary of adrenal fatigue & lower back injuries). Mars will not be up to his normal speed until July, so maintain patience in your relationships, and if you’re an artist, maintain patience with the progress of your art.

What actions can you take to bring your life into balance?
Where are you experiencing indecision in your life?
What do your values & your body tell you about the decisions you are facing?

How have your relationships shifted since late December?
Are your relationships in better balance, or do more adjustments need to be made?

What shifts have occurred in your body & physicality since late December?
What might your body be telling you, & how can you bring your body into an evolved state of balance?

grand Water Trine & Grand Cardinal Cross:
Throughout this month, we’re teetering between the tugs and shoves of one major configuration and the tides and strides of another, with jolly Jupiter at the center of this massive seesaw: Cosmic tough love meets redemptive cosmic gift this month, with the biggest challenges being:

Are you alert to the opportunities showing up?
Are you showing up to the opportunities that present themselves to you?
Are you leaving empty time in your schedule to let new inspiration & opportunity find you?

What these configurations offer:
<> The grand cardinal cross challenges us to maintain our center in the midst of pulls between finding balance in relationships, activating new inspirations about identity, attending to longterm transformations from the foundation up, while increasing the nourishment, support and love we give and receive.
<> The grand water trine is an intriguing mingling of nourishing expansion within intense limitations in such a way that redeems your animal nature, and dissolves old wounds. Now there’s a riddle to ruminate on:

What activities, people, places & practices return you to center?
What activities, experiences, & states of mind unite your instinctual & emotional nature with your intellectual & philosophical-spiritual nature?

Are you cutting away the unnecessary & unimportant in order to support your truest directions of growth?

Are you nourishing yourself appropriately - physically, mentally, emotionally, & spiritually?
Are you nourishing what’s important to you - relationships, communities, projects, environments?

Configuring time:
<> The grand water trine  is strongest in the second half of May.
<> The grand cardinal cross peaked most strongly in mid to late April, but it will have a smaller spike in intensity around the Sagittarius full moon on 6/12.
<> Get your nourishment issues squared away now (apologies for the astrological pun) because this is the last month of Jupiter’s yearlong hurrah in Cancer.

Mercury Retrograde in Cancer & Gemini, 6/7 - 7/1:
The good news is this Mercury retrograde cycle marks the apex of the early 2014 mire, & once it’s over, things will run a lot more smoothly - maybe too smoothly, so use this slower period to rest up. Also, be flexible and patient as this is the longest, slowest and most potent of this year’s Mercury retrograde cycles.

General Mercury retrograde protocols:
<> Until Mercury stations retrograde on 6/7, back up computers and other devices, tune up cars and bikes, and solidify any ambiguous communications and travel plans.
<> During Mercury’s backwards transit, 6/7 - 7/1, maintain flexibility during your commutes and travels, and suspend judgment and keep your mind open during communications.

This Mercury retrograde is brought to you by the Hanged Man tarot card:
<> Mercury retrograde periods offer us opportunities to evolve and shift our perceptions. With Mercury stationing retrograde in early Cancer, pay attention to how your emotions affect your perceptions. Also, your perception of your past is up for review - it’s time to update your story so you can create a more nourishing future.
<> However, the bulk of this retrograde occurs in late Gemini - Mercury’s home sign, and the sign of the Sun’s current transit. Meanwhile, Neptune stations retrograde in Pisces on 6/9. The key word in these planetary maneuvers is Suspension: Suspend belief, suspend judgment, suspend your urge to speak, suspend your movements. Only then will new beliefs make sense. Only then will true discernment shine through. Only then will you truly hear. Only then will you know your true direction.

What are the stories you tell?
What is the picture those stories paint?
Is that picture the landscape you want to inhabit?
If not, how can you shift your stories to create a more nourishing climate?

How do your emotions affect your perceptions?
Mind is an infinite territory - how can you expand the range you “in-habit” within that boundless expanse?
How might forgiveness and compassion expand your perception?

Coming Soon:
Next month’s posting will cover an overview of Summer 2014, the completion of the Mercury retrograde cycle, and (drum roll, please) Jupiter’s exciting entry into heart-warming Leo.

For more personalized insight, you may schedule a private astrological consult, healing session, or healing intensive in person, over the phone, or via Skype. Sun in Sagittarius, Loose Water Trine & Cardinal Cross

Solar Month of Sagittarius, 2013

Sun in Sagittarius: 11/21/13 (PDT) through 12/21/13

What comes into your mind when you read the following word?
REWARD
Spend some time with your answers (aside from any answers involving wanted posters from old Western movies or desperate lost pet flyers).  I’ll ask you again in the spring, & you’ll then find your answers to be quite different - richer & deeper in meaning, & with a sense of a vaster timespan.

On a similar yet different note, one of the things I get asked the most as an astrologer is, “When will things get better?”  The only honest answer to this question is, “There is no such thing as better.”  I’m a professional, so I have a better bedside manner than to say that directly to someone struggling with the beasts of life.  But these planetary reports are truth time, so it’s safe to say:

Things will not get better because there is no such thing as better.  Things will change, & hopefully we will evolve both as individuals & as a species so that we perceive & experience these changes in a more open way.

But for now, we are many planets, eclipses, & sensitive points deep in truth-telling, transformation-inducing Scorpio, in the throes of an on-going tense configuration of outer planets, decades away from gaining our bearings after the 2006 discovery of Eris (named after the goddess of strife!), & about to enter into an inner planet retrograding bonanza.  This age we find ourselves in, friends, is challenging.  But the coming solar month may feel just a tad softer than the previous month & the proceeding months, so whoop up & enjoy your holidays - or your avoidance of them - as the case may be... because we’ll be entering a dense time this Winter Solstice.

The Sagittarius solar month begins on November 21st with a close alignment of the recently stationed retrograde ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter, dark moon Lilith & the Moon in the lunar home sign of Cancer, all widely trine Saturn, Mercury & the lunar north node in Scorpio, & recently stationed direct Chiron in Pisces.  This is a loose grand water trine, reminding you to manage your emotions this month.  Here’s how this planetary set-up asks you to do just that:

Cancer conjunction:
What happens when I deepen my faith in the support of the Universe?
How do I see my needs evolving, & how can I plan to support my future needs, rather than my present desires?
What needs am I afraid of acknowledging?  Am I projecting these “unsightly” needs onto others?

Scorpio conjunction:
Am I responding appropriately to my needs, & to the needs of those I’m closest with?
Am I effectively communicating my needs, or am I expecting others to just know what I need & provide it for me, like a mother for an infant?
Where do my needs & my deepest desires meet, & where do they diverge?
What are the most important responsibilities in my life - those things that having attended to them will allow me to die in peace, when my time in this body comes to a close?

Chiron in Pisces insights:
Which situations in my life will shift with the salve of FORGIVENESS?  Hint: Consider those wounds that will never go away in your most intimate relationships, & in your family.  Forgive the unforgivable, & see what happens.
Am I being compassionate enough - with myself as well as with others?

With the Sun in Sagittarius, the glues that will hold you together this solar month will be to maintain your optimism, deepen your faith, & do some behind-the-scenes work on taking right risks on yourself & your future.  With Sagittarian ruler, Jupiter in retrograde, you may find it difficult to act outright until the spring, or if you do get big plans set in motion now, expect them to revise, revision & realign in the coming months.  November closes with Venus in the shadow of her coming retrograde in Pluto-tinted Capricorn, & Mercury out of his recent retrograde in Scorpio.  One in-depth chapter closes, & another one opens.

In the first week of December, things lighten up a bit as Mercury enters optimistic Sagittarius on the 4th, & Mars enters Libra on the 7th.  This follows closely on the heels of the December 2nd Sagittarius new moon, so you’ll leap into a more hopeful, fresh start feeling around then.

Mercury in Sagittarius:
What happens when I “zoom out” the camera of my perception in the various situations/relationships in my life?
What philosophies glue my experience of reality together in a way that inspires me to feel a vaster faith in the Universe, in humanity, & in myself?

Mars in Libra:
Am I compromising when a need to relinquish is necessary?
Am I standing up for myself when it’s necessary to stay my ground?
Am I doing the above in direct, effective & appropriate ways?

On the December 17th Gemini full moon, electrifying Uranus grinds to a halt in the sky as he stations direct.  At this point, the on-going Pluto/Uranus square - that challenges us as individuals & as a species to evolve the greater structures of our lives & governments while also managing outbursts of revolt against constrictions & jolting insights that rock our sense of reality - is now a grand cardinal cross, with Jupiter in Cancer & asteroids Vesta & Ceres in Libra.

Uranus stationing direct:
How have my revolutionary visions shifted since mid-July?
What is my inspiration now?
What is my muse now calling me to do that requires a new level of courage?

The cardinal cross:
How can I better balance activating my personal vision with nurturing & tending my most important relationships?
What can I do to live in better harmony with the earth, tending & stewarding this precious home we share with many other beings?
Am I being disciplined in my attention to the vaster shifts I’m making in my life?
Am I acting on my insights, & bringing them into reality in a way that accounts for the greater context of our shared reality?

Phew!  That’s quite enough.  We’ll get into the Venus retrograde in Capricorn (December 21st, 2013 - January 31st, 2014) in next month’s report.

If you’re the gift-giving sort, please note that I now have sweet little gift certificates available for any of my services, or as credit towards art, both commissions and ready-made.  Instructions for purchase can be found at the bottom of the astrology, CoAlithesis & Alithesis pages.
