This new moon brings in the Chinese New Year of the Black
Dragon, & practically coincides with Mars, the planet of will &
strength, stationing retrograde.
Although you may have strong inspiration, it is not yet time to act. While Dragon years are typically quite
explosive, full of movement & change, this powerful energy is slowed &
tempered somewhat in 2012 by the element of Water. This energetic pattern is mirrored in western astrology’s
planetary omens. The Mars retrograde
discussed later in this report is one part of the tempered power you will
experience this year.
Generally, an Aquarius new moon suggests a time to plant a
seed within your community, to plant yourself as a seed within a community you
would like to be a part of, or a time of receiving fresh & even unsettling
insight from the people in your life.
If you are already clear in your direction, you’re likely to be the
seed-planter. If you are still
finding your way, this is a good time to be fertile loam for those insightful
seeds to enter into. Most of us
have elements of both ends of this spectrum. Except for me.
I’m totally enlightened (Ha, Ha).
The house placement of this new moon links this inspiration
with family, history & roots.
So you may receive insights through a reevaluation of your past, or
through talking with family members. You’ll want to connect your community-oriented intentions
with your personal goals. The
homework: Review your past
accomplishments. Which ones give
you the most satisfied & happy feelings? Acknowledge your good work. Then consider what you could aim towards accomplishing this
year that would both fill you with that same satisfied joy AND somehow benefit
others.
This new moon is strengthened by a sextile with Uranus in
Aries, & challenged by a square with Jupiter in Taurus. This indicates that your personal view
may upset the stability of some of your relationships, especially due to
differences in philosophy. Be
especially wary in the next couple of weeks of being overly attached to your
own subjective viewpoint, even if you have yourself convinced you’re doing
what’s best for everybody. That
would still be your opinion of what’s best for everybody. I offer you my current favorite
personal reminder: Listen with
the ears of your heart. Do
this, & your efforts will be made easier & more effective with the
cooperation of others. Also, be
cautiously honest about your real intentions in “helping” others. This configuration implies a
self-serving shadow to the help we offer.
The positive use of this energy is actively creating win-win situations,
& also humbling ourselves to ask for help from others when we can’t go it
alone - & then being grateful when the help is given.
Mars retrograding in Virgo:
Have you been feeling slowed down or more tired than usual
lately? Perhaps your body has been
calling for some overdue attention?
This is because Mars has been appearing to slow down as he prepares to
“stand still” on the afternoon of Monday, January 23rd. Mars will then be retrograde until
mid-April.
The gist of this planetary pattern is that it’s time to slow
down, take some time to yourself, reevaluate your health, & build your
strength, skills & strategy in a behind-the-scenes manner. Also, it’s a great time to clear
clutter & purify in all kinds of ways - drop out of an activity that no
longer serves (or perhaps never did serve) your joy & wholeness; go on a
detoxifying diet for a few weeks; clear out your closets & storage. If some aspect of your life is too full
- be it your time, your work life, your family life, your home, your
relationship, your social life, your body, your mind - the next few months will
give you ample opportunity to simplify things to an efficient & effective
level.
The next few months until Mars goes direct will not
be an effective time for making big leaps in life. Of course, sometimes life pushes us to make leaps under less
than ideal circumstances. If you
are moving ahead on something during this time, you will likely encounter
instructive obstacles, & go through a good deal of trial & error. This is fine. Retrogrades are about learning, so pay attention when
something goes wrong. You are
likely to gain some pithy insights if you do.
If you take this opportunity to spruce up your personal
care, to let go of those parts of your life that keep you from wholeness, &
to build your skills behind the scenes, by late June you’ll be ready to burst
forth with more strength & ability than you could even imagine possible at
this time.
My next report, on the full moon in Leo, will also include
information on Neptune entering Pisces & Saturn turning retrograde. Those mischievous planets are always up
to something!
