The coming solar eclipse in Sagittarius is preceded by
Mercury turning retrograde in Sagittarius. Prepare to walk a personal tightrope in the weeks ahead as
this blend of internal and external energy tugs at your mind.
The trickster planet stations retrograde on Wednesday,
November 23rd at 11:21 PM PST.
Whenever any planet appears to move backwards in the sky, its actions
become internal rather than external.
When Mercury is retrograde, communications and all of the tools we use
for communicating like phones & computers, and short distance travel and
all of the tools we use for commuting, such as public transportation, bicycles
& cars, are all subject to going awry. The benefit is that we are offered opportunities to rethink
how we communicate and how we get around.
With Mercury retrograding in Sagittarius, you can expect to
rethink your philosophies. It’s
time to let go of some ideas you’ve outgrown, and replace them with more
evolved & expansive ideas.
See how this may effect how you communicate with others, with yourself,
and with Nature.
A new moon is a time to initiate things, but in a quiet way,
like a seed planted in the earth - invisible, yet potentiating. A solar eclipse is a new moon with
exclamation points. So put some
exclamation points on that subtle initiating. Translation: A solar eclipse indicates a time to get clear
about what you really want, and to take steps in subtle ways towards that
brightest, deepest yearning.
Further twists:
This eclipse occurs in the gregarious, outgoing sign of
Sagittarius. A chart cast for the
moment of the eclipse puts all the sun/moon conjunction in the most personal
and hidden fourth house. Another
dichotomy! Add to this the usual
new moon uniting of sun and moon, symbolizing the collision of outer and inner.
This suggests a need for preparing a leap based on one’s
truest desires, a leap into the future supported by one’s history. In other words, enjoy your Sagittarian
(savoring & giving thanks for the fruits of one’s labors) Thanksgiving
celebration, but also get away from the festivities.
Give yourself time alone to answer these big questions: What outcome would bring me the most
joy? How could my past, my family,
my personal history support my attaining that outcome? What path would lead me from where I am
to where I most want to be? What
is the gift I most want to give?
How & to whom shall I give it?
How can I tweak my personal myth so that it supports my evolution &
growth?
And if that’s not enough, the sun/moon conjunction is in a
T-square (i.e. tense, uncomfortable & wobbly, but insistent on growth &
resolution) configuration with Mars and Chiron. This highlights a tension between the skills/services we
identify ourselves & our ego with, and our capacity for compassion for
another. Due to the eclipse
occurring in the 4th house, family is definitely indicated as a great source of
tension in this tense configuration, although all close relationships could
experience this squeeze.
On a cautionary note, avoid getting so taken with your own
position that you cannot keep your heart open to others. Also avoid being critical of
others. These are good practices
at any time, but expect to feel your generosity of spirit particularly
challenged at this holiday dinner.
This configuration also adds these questions to the above
list: What skills are unique to
me? How can I be of service in
ways that are compassionate to others, yet maintain my sense of personal
wholeness?
This is more than enough to ruminate on
for a couple of weeks until the full lunar eclipse in Gemini. These eclipses, combined with the
overall planetary patterns of the times ask you to expand your mind so that you
can set your heart free.
